| Customer Reviews: Emodio makes me emo May 27, 2009 teeze (Mass., USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The S3 itself is a lovely little device, playing a decent number of AV formats with a great sound and video quality. The screen is on the small side, but since I bought it primarily as an mp3 player, I don't mind that at all. The FM radio is great and easy to use, and i like the idea of datacasts (aka podcasts) a lot. It even came with a few games!
The problem is EmoDio. I cannot think of a time since I had Windows 95 as my OS that a program has crashed so many times. I've reinstalled it umpteen times, and tried every trick in the book, including installing an earlier version (Samsung Media Studio) and all I can say is that it makes me want to cry. I've literally spent hours trying to get media on the player using this program, and each time i click "sync" it quits on me. It got to a point where it quit everytime my S3 was plugged in.
That being said, you can just drag and drop music or sync it using WMP or Real player - but you miss out on a good amount of the functionality. I can't get playlists to work with anything other than EmoDio, and you can't sync datacasts in the same way. Moreover, since Samsung has some proprietary video format, you can't really use the video capability with anything else. Overall, Emodio has turned this from a cute and functional little player to a time-consuming waste of money. If Samsung reps are reading this, please please fix this horrible program so I can return to enjoying this otherwise great product.
Great buy! Got one for myself, one as a gift. February 1, 2009 J. Lopez (California) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this player for a couple of months now and I love it. I was hesitant to buy it at first because I thought I would hate the touch controls but they're actually fun to use. I bought a Sansa e260 before this but returned it because there were too many technical problems and it was just a hassle to figure out. The Samsung S3 worked on the first try and is very easy to use.
It looks stylish, feels lightweight but durable, has great sound, and is fun and easy to use. You can also delete songs off of it without having to be connected to a PC. It is definitely a good deal for the price and I would buy another player like this one in the future.
I would have preferred tactile volume controls that work when the player is in the "hold" position rather than using the touch pad but I don't mess with the volume too much so it's not a big deal. The controls can be a bit too sensitive at times and there is a slight lag when scrolling through menus but its not enough to bother me. Some people might find it annoying though.
This is my first mp3 player so I definitely recommend it for first time buyers. If you've been through several or are used to iPod and know exactly what you love and hate in a music player, go to a store and try it out before buying. Accessories are limited but I found a nice armband/belt clip from DLO at BestBuy.
What a disappointment January 19, 2009 Al Schmidt (Wisconsin) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an attractive, thin mp3 player that has great sound.
It is a crashing disappointment, however, because it requires the worst software I have ever encountered. Emodio is a failure as it executes, and has the least helpful screen guidance that I have ever worked with. Using hardware that meets or exceeds the requirements, it consistently freezes after transferring the first few seconds of the first song of an album. I've spent hours working with it, reviewed the manual several times, and now dread calling the "help line." My guess is that I'll just consider it $70 loss, and listen occasionally to the few albums I have on it. It does have a really nice sound.
Also, the touch screen controls are somewhat inaccurate for someone with average size fingers. Most of us will be challenged to consistently get the volume-up button pushed without accidentally hitting the return to previous screen arrow. Yeah, it's a lot cheaper than an IPOD, but way too expensive for what I got.
My advice: don't buy this item.
Don't risk it. January 5, 2009 M. McCarty (West Desert, U.S.A.) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
My daughter bought one of these with her own money. When I connected it to our computer, the it couldn't communicate with the MP3 player. I thought that I probably needed a driver for my computer but couldn't find the necessary driver anywhere. Further online research led me to discover that other people were having the same problem with no known resolution.
I wouldn't take a chance on buying this MP3 player unless you don't mind returning things that don't work.
Impressive for the price! October 14, 2008 7SEVENJ9 (USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought my Samsung S3 today - in the short time that I've had it, I must say that I'm very pleased! The sound quality is great, and it is easy to use right out of the box. The features are great for the size of this player. My only complaint is that the software it came with is not licensed for use in the US! So I'll be using the easy drag and drop functionality. Overall, great little player!
