Rock out to your favorite tunes or watch crystal-clear videos wherever life takes you on a 1.8-inch LCD. Available in five cool colors, the Samsung S3 plays audio and video as well as displays still pictures and text. It also comes with 4 GB of memory and the DNSe sound engine for a superior surround sound experience. Packed with multimedia features you can enjoy no matter where you are, the Samsung S3 makes a perfect media partner.

The Samsung S3 is the perfect media partner.

Slim, sleek, and portable. Click to enlarge.

The Samsung S3 MP3 player comes in five cool colors: black, white, red, green and blue. Click to enlarge.

4 GB Internal Flash Memory
Four gigabytes of internal flash memory provides enough storage space for approximately 50 hours of music (MP3 files at 128kbps).

Touch-Sensitive LED Controls
Navigate your files using the touch controls on the S3, which light up only when in use. After a certain period of idleness, the lights dim and the controls seemingly disappear. (Don't worry, they're still there.)

Multimedia Performer
The Samsung S3 supports MP3, WMA, and Ogg audio formats. Browse your music by Artists, Albums, Songs, Genres, or Playlists. The S3 displays album art and artist info for the current track.

You also can enjoy up to four hours of video on a single charge, in MPEG4 or SVI format. Convert your favorite vids with Samsung Media Studio, and take them with you. The S3 also will display text files, along with your favorite JPEG photos, so you can take a few snapshots with you to show to friends.

DNSe sound engine
Samsung's "DNSe" technology lets you dial in your ideal sonic experience with 10 preset EQ settings plus one custom 7-band EQ, along with 3D and Bass settings.

FM Tuner/Recorder with Presets
Enjoy quick access to the FM spectrum--the built-in FM tuner scans the entire FM range in less than 60 seconds and automatically places the available FM stations into presets. To eliminate stations with marginal reception, you can adjust the sensitivity to preset stations only with strong receptions. Want to save something for later? Use the FM Recorder and it's yours.

What's in the Box
Samsung S3 4 GB Slim Portable Media Player (Red), SMS installation CD, EP-380 earphones, USB cable.

Customer Reviews:
3 out of 5 stars Emodio makes me emo   May 27, 2009

The S3 itself is a lovely little device, playing a decent number of AV formats with a great sound and video quality. The screen is on the small side, but since I bought it primarily as an mp3 player, I don't mind that at all. The FM radio is great and easy to use, and i like the idea of datacasts (aka podcasts) a lot. It even came with a few games!

The problem is EmoDio. I cannot think of a time since I had Windows 95 as my OS that a program has crashed so many times. I've reinstalled it umpteen times, and tried every trick in the book, including installing an earlier version (Samsung Media Studio) and all I can say is that it makes me want to cry. I've literally spent hours trying to get media on the player using this program, and each time i click "sync" it quits on me. It got to a point where it quit everytime my S3 was plugged in.

That being said, you can just drag and drop music or sync it using WMP or Real player - but you miss out on a good amount of the functionality. I can't get playlists to work with anything other than EmoDio, and you can't sync datacasts in the same way. Moreover, since Samsung has some proprietary video format, you can't really use the video capability with anything else. Overall, Emodio has turned this from a cute and functional little player to a time-consuming waste of money. If Samsung reps are reading this, please please fix this horrible program so I can return to enjoying this otherwise great product.

5 out of 5 stars Great buy! Got one for myself, one as a gift.   February 1, 2009

I've had this player for a couple of months now and I love it. I was hesitant to buy it at first because I thought I would hate the touch controls but they're actually fun to use. I bought a Sansa e260 before this but returned it because there were too many technical problems and it was just a hassle to figure out. The Samsung S3 worked on the first try and is very easy to use.

It looks stylish, feels lightweight but durable, has great sound, and is fun and easy to use. You can also delete songs off of it without having to be connected to a PC. It is definitely a good deal for the price and I would buy another player like this one in the future.

I would have preferred tactile volume controls that work when the player is in the "hold" position rather than using the touch pad but I don't mess with the volume too much so it's not a big deal. The controls can be a bit too sensitive at times and there is a slight lag when scrolling through menus but its not enough to bother me. Some people might find it annoying though.

This is my first mp3 player so I definitely recommend it for first time buyers. If you've been through several or are used to iPod and know exactly what you love and hate in a music player, go to a store and try it out before buying. Accessories are limited but I found a nice armband/belt clip from DLO at BestBuy.

2 out of 5 stars What a disappointment   January 19, 2009

This is an attractive, thin mp3 player that has great sound.

It is a crashing disappointment, however, because it requires the worst software I have ever encountered. Emodio is a failure as it executes, and has the least helpful screen guidance that I have ever worked with. Using hardware that meets or exceeds the requirements, it consistently freezes after transferring the first few seconds of the first song of an album. I've spent hours working with it, reviewed the manual several times, and now dread calling the "help line." My guess is that I'll just consider it $70 loss, and listen occasionally to the few albums I have on it. It does have a really nice sound.

Also, the touch screen controls are somewhat inaccurate for someone with average size fingers. Most of us will be challenged to consistently get the volume-up button pushed without accidentally hitting the return to previous screen arrow. Yeah, it's a lot cheaper than an IPOD, but way too expensive for what I got.

My advice: don't buy this item.

1 out of 5 stars Don't risk it.   January 5, 2009

My daughter bought one of these with her own money. When I connected it to our computer, the it couldn't communicate with the MP3 player. I thought that I probably needed a driver for my computer but couldn't find the necessary driver anywhere. Further online research led me to discover that other people were having the same problem with no known resolution.

I wouldn't take a chance on buying this MP3 player unless you don't mind returning things that don't work.

4 out of 5 stars Impressive for the price!   October 14, 2008

I bought my Samsung S3 today - in the short time that I've had it, I must say that I'm very pleased! The sound quality is great, and it is easy to use right out of the box. The features are great for the size of this player. My only complaint is that the software it came with is not licensed for use in the US! So I'll be using the easy drag and drop functionality. Overall, great little player!
