Great little Mp3 Player July 28, 2010 Indysheets I just upgraded from the 4GB Walkman that I have had for a couple of years. I really liked that one, but wanted more storage capacity. I was not really very concerned with the other features, as I bascially only use the player for songs, sermons, lectures, and podcasts. I was pleasantly surprised with the FM radio, the smaller physical size of the device compared to the earlier model, and at the same time the screen being very clear to read despite being smaller. This is perfect for your pocket and to generally carry around with you. I use it constantly in the things that I do. The sound is terrific, the portability is great, and the menu features I like although was used to them from before. The controls for play/pause, forward or reverse, are a little tricky but you get used to them. They are the only thing I can find to offer as criticism. If you are looking for a great player and do not want to fool with the Apple software, I highly recommend it.
Great until I broke it July 27, 2010 MattkPSU (Eastern PA) I had this for about 4 months. It was great for jogging and had great battery life. Unfortunately I ruined it at the beach. I had it in a plastic bag, and only TWO drops of salt water which evaporated in the bag were enough to ruin this unit. I tried drying it out but to no avail. So please be careful if you run in the rain with it, this is NOT a good outdoor unit. Also, if you let the inner battery die, it is very fussy about rebooting. I had to plug it into my RAZR car charger to get it to work again.
PROS:
-light and portable, name brand dependability
-decent menu setup
-good value compared to ipods
-FM receiver
-mini usb plug works with lots of other devices
CONS:
-indoor use only
-You need to make playlists in WMP, you cannot do it in the unit.
-I had a little trouble instaling the software in Windows 7 but once it was installed and updated, it worked fine
- the headphones are worthless, you will need to get a better pair if you are active
- included cable is too short
What A Disappointment!!! July 14, 2010 shutterbug98 (Belleville, Illinois) I have had LOTS of Sony products over the years & they never gave me a bit of trouble...until now. I have had 2 of the NWZ E-345 players in the last 3 days & they BOTH did the SAME thing. They load & play my music files just fine, but it refuses to list or play my properly formatted pix or video files. The only ones that WILL play are the samples that came preloaded on the player. My files load & play on my old Sony Walkman 4GB .mp3/.mp4 player. Sony Tech Support was of NO help...the suggestions they offered to fix the problem, I had already thought of & tried, to no avail. You would think that SOMEONE on the planet would have had this problem with the NWZ E-345 & Sony would have an EXACT solution. Other than the problems I'm having with the pictures/movie files,I REALLY like this player & I WISH I didn't have to return it, but I CAN'T afford to eat $75.
In the end, I found my hammer more useful. July 6, 2010 M X (-) I rather not repeat what plenty of other reviewers have said about the device except that I must express my extreme displeasure. Up till now I have never had a problem with any product from Sony. I had a walkman that lasted until it literally fell apart. I find that, excellent durability. Yet, with this mp3 walkman, I have to say, it's life was short lived. I took it to the garage and destroyed it with a hammer.
FEATURES:
I found it annoying that everytime I connected it to my PC it would sync the same songs that were already on it. So I would stop the sync & hope that the songs did not show up twice. A most tiresome effort. Which it did regardless, in their respective folder.
Also, one is unable to delete songs.
Not all of the Album ARt, shows up on the display. Even though my music folders come complete with album art.
Neither did I find out till later that one must place the song on pause, then press FF for super fast FF.
The worthless instructions that come with the device does not explain any of this.
COSMETICS:
The body scratches easy & so does the screen. Even though I bought a case for it & used the i-pod screen protector since one is not made for the sony walkman. My efforts were futile because in the end, it looks as if it's been put through the ringer.
HARDWARE:
It became really annoying that everytime I touched the device it turned on. I plugged it in, it turned on, I turned it off then plugged it in to charge, it turned on, if I breathed on it, it turned on. I grew tired of turning it off! What's wrong with a simple ON/OFF button?
My MAIN reason for putting it under the hammer was that I've had it for less than 6 months & the port to plug it in the pc became loose & now is unable to charge, period. I cannot fix it for it is an internal problem.
I must add that the button controls seemed cheap.
In short, I will not buy another mp3 player from sony again, in fact I'm eyeing the Creative Zen Mosaic 16GB for only $69 where the asking price for the sony walkman is around $100.
Save yourself the annoyance & some money, in my humble opinion.
Or buy the sony walkman, just make sure your garage comes equipped with a hammer.
The perfect mp3 player without all the unnecessary stuff! June 30, 2010 BAH (Long Island, NY USA) I have sansa and ipod nano 5th generation so I have some experience with mp3 players. I have to say that I like the sony walkman the best. The sony walkman has great sound quality even with the basic headphones that come with it. And it sounds great in my car as the music is crystal clear. The appearance of the walkman is very nice and sleek. I much prefer the walkman appearance over the ipod nano. As for ease of use, it is very user friendly that pretty much anyone can just pick it up and use it as well as transfer music and create playlist. I use windows media player to create playlists and it's very simple to use but it also has drag and drop feature. None of the complicated and glitchy ipod software. Battery life is amazing. Pictures look solid but I didn't get this player for that. 16 GB is more than enough for me. And I was able to find this mp3 player for only $69 at malwart. As for the cons, the FM could have better reception but I notice that it is pretty bad for the sansa and ipond nano as well. I would give this walkman a 4.5 out of 5.
