Love it July 20, 2010 Pavan Kumar (TX, USA) I bought it for my girlfriend after the ipod(s) broke and Cowon products are awesome. I have been using a D2 since the last 3 years and I did not need to put a screen protector on it. like wise, this one too.. this is highly recommended.. very light and sleek, easy navigation.. drag and drop, alarm, radio.. sleep timer, auto shutoff.. The ear phones are good too, but I prefer more sophisticated ones.
MP3 Virgin May 30, 2010 Elizabeth Bennet (Long Island, NY) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
While not computer illiterate, I admit some technology has passed me by. That would include iPods and MP3 players. See, I don't even know if those are one in the same, or 2 different beings. And I was the last person on my block to get a cell phone. But that doesn't mean I can't learn how to use things when I get them. If I am given the proper tools that is. With the iAudio 9, however, there is a definite shortage of tools. At least for my limited abilities. The "manual" that comes with it looked thick, although very small in dimension, with tiny print, but at least a lot of pages seemed promising. NOT. There were 3 pages in English, not the least bit helpful in actually using the thing, and the rest of the booklet consisted of the same 3 pages repeated in a multiplicity of languages. So many people, in many lands, could be equally confused.
I did manage to find a more extensive manual on-line with 49 pages, all in English, which was somewhat helpful, but it still didn't get me up and running, just more informed on the buried features of submenus and double taps, long taps and short taps and long holds (no, it's not a dance class, it's how you access the menu features on a touch screen pad with no actual buttons, don't ask). After days of unsuccessful drag and drops (you guys know more about this than I do), a visiting friend helped advise me on the mysteries of sync, audio books (the reason I bought the thing in the first place), and an AC adapter, that keeps the battery from running down. Oh, by the way, that 30 hour battery life. A myth.
So with all this, you'd think I sent the thing back on the first pony express, but alas, I did not. I don't believe in giving up. No tiny little black plastic doo dad is going to defeat me. I persevered, managed to load on some books, some music, even an opera or two. I mastered the earbuds, the USB cable, the AC adapter (purchased separately at Radio Shack), the short tap, the double tap the long hold and the submenus, although I'm still working on the bookmarks (though I haven't needed them, because I can pause, stop or turn off the player and it goes back to where I left off in my book when I turn it back on, sweet!).
When all is said and done, one of the main reasons I picked this particular MP3 player, for the sound quality and the Audible book compatibility, it was totally worth the effort. And the best part of this whole adventure? I am no longer an MP3 virgin!!
must have gotten a bad one... May 24, 2010 Robert J. Macdonald (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read all excellent reviews on this MP3 player so I bought it. It died in less than two weeks. I guess I received a defective unit. I am sort of glad in a way as I did not really like it all that much. However, the sound was excellent and it served its purpose all be it for only a short time. I returned it and am currently searching for a replacement.
Best MP3 player for Sound and size Cowon iAudio 9 or cowon i9 is great! April 5, 2010 leonard 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Quick list of why I choose the Cowon iAudio 9 I wanted...
1. Excellent Sound Quality
2. External speaker
3. Good battery life
4. Easy to use.
5. Don't need Wifi cause it eats battery and I would never use it.
I have spent over two weeks of searching reviews and youtube vids with the goal of meeting the above stated requirements. My head would spin as I would weigh the features and choices out there. One things I was not gonna accept was poor sound quality. I started with the Zume HD which was my obsession for a few days. Zune HD! Has the HD Radio which attracted me. So for the next few days I focused on the Zune only to find actual users posts on how poor the audio and ease of use was designed. I mean just to adjust the volume you have to use the touch screen three steep process. Plus you are locked into Zune proprietary software plus no spaker. I then stumbled on the Samsung p3 it had most of my requirement but the same poor users reviews, Plus much too many eye candy things I would never use. Build quality was good but Samsung support is poor. Then comes the Sony X; too expensive. Next I ran across found the Cowon S9 and I was hard press to find any negative reviews about the sound quality anywhere on the internet. But again no speaker caused me pause. Which lead me to the IAudio 9. Now on first glance it's a bit strange but it boast the same specs as the S9 unmatched sound quality. Nice external volume, skip and power buttons. External speaker, Micro USB sync which matches my Android Phone (less cables to carry) and 30 hours battery. All this is a small clean pocketable size that won't explode if I drop it. I mean come on; some people want the heft to justify the money they spend. Nonsense! Who wants to run around with a heavy device causing women to wondering if you have a herniated groin? Now understand this; I believe you should use the right tool for the right job. So if I wanted to watch movies on a plane I will buy a quality blueray player who wants to watch movies over and over again, twice is enought for me. If I wanted to search the net then I would pull out my laptop or maybe my android phone in a pinch. I want a MP3 player to play music an play it well. The I9 does this and does it very well. No toys added but tons of EQ options to tweak the music to your liking.

Cowon i9 16gig April 3, 2010 Steven D. Langdon 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I had purchased a Cowon mpm player previously after hours and days of reviewing and comparing mp3s and video players. I was duely impressed with everything on that machine: particularly the sound quality. When my wife wanted an mp3 player I didn't spend quite so much time searching. I ended up purchasing the i9 with the 16 gig and 30 hour battery life. We have not been disapointed. Works well, sounds superb, and the battery life is great. It is fantastic.
