4 out of 5 stars Creative Zen X-Fi 2..... Not bad but the little things annoy my life   September 10, 2010
Denzy-Paul
Firstly, I am a longtime Creative consumer. I first owned a creative zen sleek, vision m, vision w, zen x-fi, zune 2nd gen. and now the X-fi 2. I really love creative products, really good quality for the most part. I hate apple products, so I looked to creative for my mp3 players.

It seems as if creative has nothing better to do than mess around with their software and hardware that was perfect to begin with. One of the main reasons I like creative, is because I use windows media player to organize my music, and I refuse to switch to anything else. This player syncs to media player but does not sync videos or playlists. I was not too happy with this. So I had to download the creative software in order to sync my media.

Now...... using the actual player takes a few days to get use to. You really need to practice. I find it easiest not to use your nails but to use your finger. It is very easy to click an option that you did not intend to click (really gets annoying sometimes). Another bad part is that with this player you cannot simply change the song when you aren't looking. You need to take it out of your pocket, unlock it, and then click the next symbol. Not convenient or safe when you are on the go.

The screen size is to my liking this time around as oppose to the regular X-Fi (I hate small screens). The video playback is very good also.

The battery life is ok, nothing compared to creative vision m and w. You could go without charge for a week with moderate use.

The creative X-Fi 2 is good, not great. Creative should go back to the basics and think simpler, instead of making their software more complicated and less user friendly.

3 out of 5 stars ok for a touch screen   September 9, 2010

no it does not have wifi (that I could find) and, like any other touch screen phone/mp3 player, is a bit on the fragile side. I personally am not a big fan of touch screens in general and preferred the MX series. otherwise it's a good mp3 player at a reasonable price (for a touch screen).

1 out of 5 stars Run, do not walk, the other way.   September 4, 2010

My 2nd and Last Creative product.

Battery failed within a month and nothing but a run-around from Creative.

Product also contains a Cancer warning required for California that isn't mentioned.

1 out of 5 stars Very disappointed   September 3, 2010

I have two Zens now and I have had several I Pods, including the Touch. I live with audio books and the Zen allows me to download from my public library although I learned this evening there are some books I can download to my Mac and play on my I
I pod or MP3, which I did this evening.

I was under the impression Ipods were overrated and have had a high regard for my Zens. My new Zen X F12 is just cheap, the touch screen is horrible, it is not easy to operate. I downloaded my ITunes and even with my Bose headphones it had a very poor sound quality.

When I researched return policy it stated it needed to be returned in an unopened package. Believe me, it took me at the very least 30 minutes just to get the thing out of the packaging; how would you know the quality was so poor until investigating the device. Okay, I will keep it, my husband drowns MP3 players on occasion when his swimmer case leaks, it will be good for that.

That old saying, "You get what you pay for", going back to a new IPod, please, don't waste your money on this product.

5 out of 5 stars Nice Surprise   September 1, 2010
CR
I've had my Creative Zen Vision:M player for more than 7 years and really have no complaints about it except that it was starting to get a little old in terms of technology and the hard drive started clicking so that immediately sent alarm bells ringing, I knew it was only a matter of time. So I started looking at different players to see what I wanted. I went to look at Creative again to see what players they had available, and I found the Creative Zen x-fi2. In terms of specs it offered exactly what I look for in my player. I use my players for music and videos, everything else is really a bonus. If you want lots of different applications and multimedia bells and whistles this might not be for you. So I searched the Cnet and other websites to find reviews about the player. After reading some reviews I was a bit hesitant to buy the player because so many people had issues with the touch interface and the the software it comes with, etc. Well I started looking at other products.

I didn't want an Apple I-touch because of the proprietary software, i-tunes, and I was close to buying the Zune but again, it forces you to use their software too. I went back to Creative mainly because I like the fact that you can use Windows media player to sync or you can just click and drop the music into the player, much like a flash drive external device, something you can't do with the other players I was considering.(FYI: You don't have to use the Creative software that comes embedded in the player, you don't even have to install it) I decided to try the Creative player.....I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I love it! The sounds is fantastic, the design is nice and it is easy to use.

All the reviews about the touch screen not being sensitive I think miss the way that this touch screen is supposed to work. It is actually the reverse of most touch screen where only a slight touch is needed to activate the screen controls. The touch screen on the Creative Zen x-fi 2 works similar to having actual buttons, i.e. pressing as if there were real buttons is what makes it work the best. And it really is easy to use and navigate, I let someone who had never used Creative players before use the Zen x-fi 2 and he was able to figure everything out in a matter of minutes and he also didn't find the touch screen to be an issue, he was able to figure out that some pressure was needed to make it work. He commented that he actually liked that of the touchscreen. Hopefully this review helps with those that might have doubts about the touchscreen, it is really not an issue.

As far as the cons, right now the only issue I'm having is transferring video from my computer to the player. I think it's just a matter of making sure i have the correct file type. Also, here's a tip, if you're using Windows Media Player to sync the player, if you use an earlier version of the player, I used Windows Media Player 11, the play lists you saved on that player DO transfer to the player, however, if you have the latest player Windows Media Player 12, they don't. I'm not sure why.

One more thing, feel i should mention how light in weight this player is. It is actually very lightweight, it caught me by surprise. Not a bad thing but it takes some getting used to, then again the Zen Vision:M is pretty heavy compared to other players....
